Beach paddle tennis is the greatest sport in this town. You've probably seen those little tennis courts on Venice Beach but stop, rent some paddles and play. It's my secret favorite sport.

The Santa Ynez waterfall hike in the Palisades. If you catch it at just the right time, you'll see a field of bright orange salamanders swimming and mating in the creek. Magical.

hollenbeck park in boyle heights. it's very pretty, similar to echo lake, but a bit more quaint. there are alot of ducks and geese. Loads of people get married and have their pictures taken there. so it is always mobbed with bridal parties, parading about with photographers and geese chasing them. it's very relaxing and quite cinematic.

The Self-Realization Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades off of Sunset -right before you hit PCH. It's truly a piece of heaven and paradise. A portion of Gandhi's ashes are enshrined there. It 's filled with raw lush well-maintained nature. If you ever feel like the world is crumbling around you or you feel like jumping out of your skin, before you bust open the pharmaceuticals, heading to this place. Also great for a romantic stroll around the lake, on a Sunday morning with that special someone.

I'm sure LA people know about them, but may not get the chance to visit as often as they like: El Matador Beach, the original farmer's market and all the little local neighborhood ones too, LACMA, MOCA, Getty museums, the hiking trails up and down the Hollywood and SM mountains, all the ethnic film festivals and concerts!

The beautiful hiking and views at Franklin Canyon and TreePeople HQ at Mulholland & Coldwater Canyon. There's even an "official" rainforest nestled back there if you can take the tough hike to get to it!

The drive down Topanga Cyn Bl, starting in Woodland Hills going south to the ocean. There are a lot of turns, and the best one is just toward the end, where you're greeted by the Pacific after the bend.

Public transportation. Don't get me wrong, I have a car and LOVE to drive. I do not, however, love to sit in traffic. The DASH all around Hollywood/WeHo and the Metro to go downtown? Awesome. No traffic, no PARKING! Best of all taking the Metro takes about the same amount of time anytime of day...so you can safely travel from Hollywood to Downtown with no regard to the sucky traffic above. Don't be skrrd LA, its not so bad!
