Allow me to set the stage: I am single and live in Los Angeles. Nuff said! Being the adventurous woman that I am when it comes to dating, I’ve pretty much tried everything. So when The Lek asked “Why should you win a ticket on The Matchmaking Flight?” I answered the call, which is what brings me here. I am packed and prepared to board Air New Zealand’s Matchmaking Flight to Auckland, New Zealand, and maybe (just maybe!) meet the man of my dreams 30,000 feet above the Pacific.
Personally, I find the idea of a matchmaking flight genius. Think about it from a marketing standpoint - people aren’t traveling as much these days, but dangle the prospect of meeting ‘the one’ in the friendly skies and suddenly you have a sold out flight! Not to mention the potential of a
budding cross-Pacific romance, which would, of course, result in further travel. Then there is even the long—or short— term possibility of a wedding that promises more trans-Pacific flights. Cha-ching!
Okay, now that I have gotten my businessy commentary out of the way, I will get to the fun stuff. There are lots of benefits to flying on a plane with a bunch of other singles. First, people tend to be chattier when traveling by air. I guarantee that many of you have divulged far more to your neighbor on a flight, whose first name you may never even have known, than to many of your first dates. Second, as a single person, I always have one wish when boarding a plane (I believe I am not alone in this); that eternal wish is to be seated next to an eligible bachelor.
Well, in this case, I shouldn’t have any trouble with that. I’m guaranteed to be within shouting distance of a man who is fair game—although shouting really isn’t what one wants to be doing on a plane—and so that brings me to my first question. Who selected the people sitting next to me?
I’ll leave you with a final thought before I dash to LAX for the pre-party. Are the pilots single?
See you in Auckland!
