Arclight Cinemas

I have turned into a complete movie snob since I've been to this theater. I have been coming here since it first opened, and since then I have only been to 3 other movie theaters (only because Arclight wasn't showing the movies I wanted to see). I simply refuse to go to any other theaters because I cannot stand noisy crowds, lines, and crappy popcorn at most theaters. Here you can purchase your ticket in advance and reserve your seats. And the clientele is much more sophisticated and mature about watching movies. You don't have bunch of people talking during the movies. You may even run into some Hollywood movie producers and other celebrities here. I remember watching Lord of the Rings few years back, and was sitting just two seats away from Lucy Liu and her friends.

I'm giving a 4 star only because I have been a bit disappointed with their movie selection since the Sherman Oaks location opened up. They should show the same movies at both locations but they seem to be showing slightly better selection at the Sherman Oaks location. I'm not too fond of that location because I don't like the crowd out there, not to mention it's a bit too far from where I live.

The prices are high, yes, but so is the quality. Arriving is, and I'm sure this is intentional, like coming into a port-of-entry, with a huge time-board looking much like an airport. With a bar&restaurant, and even 21+ screenings where you can bring your drink in with you, it's an easy and relaxing way to spend several hours. Also the extra price on the ticket insures no more of those annoyingly copious ads before the movie previews.

Someday all movie theaters will be like this. I look forward to that day. Getting a drink and a meal at the theater before or after is just plain civilized. Now they just need to make the concessions carry some of the good food they have available in the bar and it'll be perfect.
