Great place to hang out, limited seating, not a place to dance. The Edison only admits around 80 people outside of reserved parties so book a reservation! It is so small because all the old machines are still in tact (great conversation starters!). Great atmosphere.

This is my favorite hangout place by far. Love the neo-Victorian style decor and all their drinks on the menu. Scharffen Berger Napoleon (their version of chocolate martini), Spot Weld, and Edison are few of my favorite drinks from their menu. They also have killer appetizers like Tesla Fries (sweet potato fries with their own dipping sauces) and lobster corndogs. The decor is almost hypnotizing to newcomers. I saw Abney Park perform here one Sunday night and the lead singer kept mentioning how he couldn't focus on his singing due to the awesome decor. I also love the absinthe fairy that walks around with a cart full of absinthe shots and drinks. I'm not a big bar person but this place is closing to turning me into an alcoholic.

The Edison is one of those reasons I force myself to go downtown. Because I can't imagine any other part of LA where it could possibly be. It looks like a blade runner backdrop and hides down an alley that seems like it can't be the place. But when you get to the bottom of the spiderweb-esque stairs, you're in a whole other world seemingly. And one with very well made cocktails and some decent appetizers. One where giant unused electric turbines are like some steampunk motif to get drunk with an eclectic crowd where your grandpa used to haul coal to make the lights come on.
