LA, with it's vast K-town, seems to be the land of private Karaoke parties. Nothing against Orchid and the other K-town Karaoke joints, but the private rooms just don't quite capture the true essence of Karaoke...public humiliation!
Brass Monkey seems like it is the perfect dive bar karaoke joint
1) Alcohol
2) Fun, talented MCs
3) Eclectic, friendly crowd
My biggest complainant about the Monkey is people are TOO talented here. It seems to be the hangout of choice for aspiring singers. Don't get me wrong, it is fun hearing the wannabe R&B singers out there, but keep the love open for the tone deaf music lovers! If you prick us, do we not bleed? We have just as much right to that cheap microphone and stage as you do.
